About Us

‘An accessible and accepting society will flourish’

MWDT

MWDT are a registered partnership and collaboration between Mary Davies and Lynnette King. We are making art through the lens of two mid career female dance artists. Our experience and combined methodology has an artistic and creative integrity derived from an open and inclusive approach.

Mary Davies

Commissions for large-scale projects devising movement with artists from all disciplines deepened Mary’s interest in movement directing eventually gaining a Masters in 2021 from the Central School of Speech and Drama. She now combines her skills facilitating movement for actors and dancers. Running parallel to her recent studies she is a recipient of development funding from Arts Council England. This supports her research into making movement specifically for film. Her first film Birder will be shared on 4 May 2022 at Host in Ipswich.

For DanceEast Mary was artistic director for many years for performance companies; EncoreEast (over 55’s) and Dance Unlimited (trained dance practitioners and enthusiasts). As a qualified as a Postural Stability Instructor she delivers Dance To Health in the community as part of a falls prevention program for U3A. In 2019 she completed a foundation course at Hertfordshire University in Arts Therapies and Wellbeing which feeds into her practice today.

Lynnette King

After graduating from Laban, Lynnette has been working in the field of dance for many years as a Dance Artist, choreographer and Movement Therapist. She is increasingly curious about where therapy meets performance and her evolving practice means that she is often at the interface of both. Lynnette’s teaching practice draws on many years in community dance.

The exploration of movement potential in every individual is key and she challenges herself in seeking out opportunities to explore movement in its broadest form whilst combining other art forms to influence her work. Lynnette has significant experience in leading both choreographic and therapeutic work with learning disabled artists. She currently offers creative movement classes, workshops and Movement Therapy in Ipswich and is Artistic Director of Involve Dance Company (formerly Spin Off, DanceEast).

As an educator and choreographer she has worked on behalf of various companies including Random Dance, Suffolk Artlink, New Art Club, Wolfgang Stange – Amici Dance Company, Tom Hobden – UNIT and Gecko Theatre Company. Lynnette has co lead two large-scale intergenerational projects which were performed at the Jerwood DanceHouse, Ipswich in 2016/17. In Summer 2018 Stopgap created a dance film with Spin Off by Kate Flurrie shown at DanceEast, Ipswich.

Lynnette is currently the lead Dance Artist for DanceEast’s CaretoDance? program delivering movement workshops in Memory Cafes across Suffolk for those experiencing Dementia and their carers.

From September 2021 she will also be delivering the English National Ballet Dance for Parkinsons classes at the Ipswich hub, DanceEast.

And as a way of nurturing her own reflective practice, she has set up an independent research and development project with a fellow Dance Artist/Movement Director Mary Davies, maxandwaynedancetheatre.com
They create a breadth of opportunities for community and inter-disciplinary artists.

Lynnette and Mary both performed in June 2019 in Rosemary Lee’s work, Circadian at First Light Festival, Lowestoft.
